Training for Tomorrow’s Church
From September to July, I took part in the ‘First Timers training scheme for Children, Families & Youth Workers’, organised by the Diocese of Guildford. Held weekly across various locations (with a memorable Christmas gathering right here in Ashtead), the course offered rich learning through practical theology and hands-on ministry skills.
Each Monday began with a short reflection or Bible study, setting the tone in prayer and scripture. I found the blend of teaching styles and peer interaction not only engaging but deeply supportive.
On our final day, we each shared a presentation before fellow course members, our line managers, guests from our churches, course leaders—and the Bishop of Guildford, who personally presented our certificates. The service was held in Aldershot, at the church of one of the participants.
I’m truly grateful for this experience and excited to apply what I've learned in my work with children and young people here in Ashtead.
