Shine Bright this Halloween

Traditionally, a British Celtic festival marking the end of Harvest and the beginning of winter, Halloween was an evening of mischief and mayhem as folk dressed up as spirits or fairies from ‘otherworlds’, bringing fear and sorrow to whole communities. These days it has become the third biggest event (after Christmas and Easter) and spending has increased 342% over the last decade, bringing hordes of young people to our doorsteps demanding ‘treats’ under the threat of ‘tricks.’

But where there’s darkness, there is always an opportunity to bring light! Light Parties have been the Christian Church’s alternative to Halloween for a number of years; rather than ignoring the celebration, we open our doors to share fun, faith and light.

Ashtead Parish is no exception! We have been running Light Parties for many years, last year welcoming over 100 children and their grown-ups to The Dell Centre! Families enjoyed lots of fun activities, including plenty of treats – no tricks!

We’re looking forward to bringing more light to Ashtead this Halloween night, with more fun and games at The Dell Centre. Children aged 2 – 11 are welcome with their adults from 5 pm. More inflatables, challenges, craft, an awesome Glow in the Dark Room, and our puppet show – with regular scheduled performances on Jesus’ Transforming Light! Tickets cost just £5 per child (adults free), which includes a treat to take home. Book your space here.

Of course, we couldn’t do all this without you. If you would like to be part of the Light Party Team and can host an activity on the night or bake some delicious treats for it, then please sign up here! Or just simply tell people about it – invite friends, family and neighbours, and help bring some light to Ashtead on this dark night.
