Karen Border Ministries
“God says he will never leave us or forsake us. Do not be afraid or discouraged”
The Karen Border Ministry operates across two sites, 50km apart on the Thai/Myanmar border:
1. Mae La Temporary Shelter
A refugee camp housing around 50,000 people
2. Noh Bo Academy (NBA)
A day and boarding school for approximately 200 students (Years 7–13)
Fund raising and support is co-ordinated by Christ Church Bangkok over 800Km to the south
In spite of continuing unrest, the positivity shown by the Karen who live in this region of Thailand never ceases to amaze us.
Numbers in Mae La refugee camp, dwindling as we left in 2013, are now mushrooming as the conflict over the border continues, restricting movement and causing concern for many. Noh Bo Academy (NBA) is situated in a rural Thai village. Students continue to grow in knowledge. and love of the Lord, to thrive and to learn, so on leaving, they move into further training or positions of responsibility to support their local and wider community.
Both the Camp and School buildings are constantly needing maintenance due to the tropical climate. Dormitories are a key part of school life - relationships are forged which last a lifetime.
Watch out for a video this week at SGSG as one of the senior girls at NBA explains the need for work on their dormitory this summer. The Parish has generously contributed, and it is now ready to be occupied by the girls of the 2026-27 intake.
They, and we, are so very, very grateful for this improving facility and thank you most sincerely.
Thank you to Gwynneth Cooper, our Parish Rep for KBM

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” Jesus
