All Things Created: Aid to Wildlife
Did you notice how much rain fell earlier this spring? It’s hard to believe that after weeks of slushy, water-logged conditions, our gardens and lawns are now dry and brittle.
These extremes in rainfall can create real challenges for our local wildlife. Birds may find it harder to forage, as water-logged soil limits access to earthworms, while dry conditions can leave insects dehydrated and scarce—disrupting vital food chains.
So, what can we do to help during dry spells and throughout the year? Small, thoughtful actions can make a significant difference:
Provide clean water - A shallow dish filled with fresh water, with pebbles or twigs for landing spots, can support insects and offer a vital drink for thirsty birds.
Feed birds responsibly - Offering appropriate food in a safe way can help sustain bird populations. (For guidance, visit Surrey Wildlife Trust.)
Grow native plants and flowers - These provide essential food and habitat for pollinators and other wildlife.
Clear away plastic litter
Everyday items like bottle caps or wrappers can be dangerous if ingested and may pollute waterways when washed into drains.
As Colossians 1:16 reminds us: “For in him all things in heaven and on earth were created… all things have been created through him and for him.”
Caring for wildlife is an expression of stewardship—an act of gratitude for the Creator of all things.
