Celebrating New Deacons and Priests in the Diocese

on 28 and 29 June, 28 individuals—including 19 women—were ordained at Guildford Cathedral, marking a joyful and significant step in their journey of faith and ministry. Among them were our very own curates, Alison Anderson and Matt Regan, who both had a wonderful and memorable day as they celebrated with friends, family, and fellow ordinands.

The annual ordination services are a highlight in the diocesan calendar, bringing together bishops, clergy, and well-wishers to support those being ordained as deacons and priests. This year’s candidates came from a wide range of backgrounds—including law, education, healthcare, and broadcasting—and many have powerful personal stories of transformation and calling. Interestingly, both Alison and Matt chose the same Bible verses, Isaiah 43:1-2 as part of their calling story—a meaningful connection that can be explored further here.

Revd Dr Craig Holmes described ordination as “a wonderful moment of blessing,” and Bishop Paul Davies encouraged everyone to reflect on how the Holy Spirit might be calling them too. It was a weekend full of joy, hope, and renewed commitment to God’s work.
