The Power of Friendship
International Day of Friendship – 30 July
In a world facing deep challenges—poverty, violence, division, and injustice—friendship may seem like a small thing. But it is, in fact, a powerful force for peace, healing, and unity.
Proclaimed by the United Nations in 2011, the International Day of Friendship reminds us that bonds of trust and camaraderie between individuals, communities, and nations can help address the root causes of conflict and build a more compassionate world.
This initiative especially encourages young people to engage in cross-cultural friendships and community activities that promote understanding, respect, and reconciliation.
As followers of Christ, we are called to be peacemakers and bridge-builders. Let us celebrate this day by reaching out in friendship, listening with empathy, and standing in solidarity with others—especially those who are different from us.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9
