Mission Partner - BESOM
‘Whosoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their maker but whoever is kind to the needy honours God’ - Proverbs Ch 14 v31
The year in review… Despite the challenges we have faced this year as a Besom team, we have continuously seen the faithfulness of Jesus and the faithfulness of all of those who have given, as we practically demonstrate God’s love. So firstly, we’d like to thank St George’s and St Giles’ for your support; for financially giving, donating your household items and telling your friends and neighbours all about Besom!
As the country has gone in and out of lockdown, we have continued and helped over 130 people since January. Some of those referred to us have recently come out of hostels, homelessness or have had to move due to domestic violence. Consequently when they are housed they need everything to make their flats/bedsits into a home - and we keep returning until we have been able to give them everything that they have asked for.
However, we don’t just give furniture and white goods to those who need it – we also have the opportunity to bring God’s love and hope to desperate situations. Above all – this is the prayer of Besom! “Thank you so much for the sofa and chairs, and the hoover…and the rugs! My lounge is going to look awesome now. I feel blessed. Thank you thank you x” (a recent message from a happy client)
Prayer. As a prayer led organisation, we constantly experience how God provides in wonderful ways! We were donated a beautiful grey double bed (with a fancy upholstered headboard!) that we delivered to a client in Epsom who had recently come out of rehab and had nothing. She couldn’t believe it when she saw it on the van and said she had been looking on eBay for the exact same bed but couldn’t afford it – she was so happy and she knew it was a confirmation that God was watching over her.
How can I get involved? Garden projects - Driving the Besom van- Painting projects - Create and give a Christmas hamper - Pray for us - Donate furniture or money - Join the team! We meet together throughout the week to pick up and deliver items to homes.

Finally, we will be hosting the National Besom Conference on the 26 and 27 November at the Dell Centre. Besom makes a difference - you can make a difference!
