04/10 Deeper Roots: Silence & Solitude: Making Space

Print Friendly and PDF

Mark 1:35–39

Read the passage together.

Silence

Spend 2–3 minutes (or more if comfortable) in silence together.

Nothing to achieve in this, and nothing we need to say. Just become aware of God’s presence.

Questions

1.          How did you find the silence? What did you notice about yourself, your thoughts or your awareness of God?

2.          Jesus deliberately retreats from the demands around him. What do you think he receives from that time with the Father, and what do we find difficult about doing the same?

3.          What does retreat look like for you? Where and when might you realistically make some space to be alone with God?

4.          What might you need to put down to make that space? And what might God want to give you in it?

This week

Make some deliberate space to retreat with God.  It might be 10 minutes, half an hour, a walk, or sitting somewhere quiet.  No phone.  No jobs to do. No pressure to pray brilliantly.

Just be with God.

Pray for one another

In pairs, or groups of three, share briefly if there is something you would like prayer for.

In particular, you could pray for:

•             the ability to make space for God

•             anything that makes it difficult to be still

•             wisdom about where God may be asking you to step back or slow down

•             a deeper awareness of God's presence

Keep the prayer simple. There is no need to fix anything or give advice – simply listen, pray and leave space for God.
