An Invitation to Serve
Serving is a vital part of who we are as a church—not just gathering together, but actively contributing through our time, gifts and care for others. From behind-the-scenes roles to front-facing ministries, there are many ways to be part of what God is doing here. Take a look at the opportunities below and see where you might be called to serve.
Chair Moving Team
-
We are looking to build a team of chair movers at St George’s. The purpose of this new role is to enable swift stacking and relocation of chairs to convert spaces for a variety of groups.

This is a flexible role due to the rota aspect. Ideally we would like to have enough team members to enable a limited serving pattern i.e. 1 or twice per month.
-
Physically fit and reasonable strength. Chairs are not heavy, but can be tricky to stack. The job involves lots of bending, lifting and moving. A reasonable fitness level will be required. Full training will be given.

Unlimited supply of tea and coffee. A great way to meet people!
Bell Ringer (St Giles’)

Ringing regularly with the St Giles team of Ringers.

We ring:
• for 25 minutes or so prior to the 10.30 service each Sunday
• for 30 minutes prior to the 18.00 each Sunday
• On Thursday evenings, to practise, approx. 20:00 – 21:30
• For Weddings and other special occasions
• At other times, for fun!
We don’t all make every session, but we need basic commitment to Sundays/Thursdays.
When learning to ring:
• The above times won’t apply, as you won’t be ready yet to ring with the team; you first must learn how to ‘handle’ a bell.
• We’ll arrange other times for this that suit both you and us. How many of these sessions we need will depend on progress, but it will take a month or two at least.

• Exercise your brain! In ringing there is always more to learn if you want to, even if you have been ringing for 50 years!
• Being part of the wider local ringing community if you wish; ringing at other local towers’ practice nights on other nights of the week, being a member of The Guildford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers and/or The Surrey Association of Church Bell Ringers and taking advantage of their programmes of activities and training events
• Helping to keep alive the 400-year-old tradition of church bell ringing
• If you are young, learning a skill that you might be able to continue with a university ringing society: a great way to rapidly meet new uni friends. Many ringers have life-long friends (& partners) from, their uni days.
Little Kids Play - Toddler Room

Come and chat with parents, carers, grandparents, nannies, and childminders in our popular weekly toddler group at St George’s Church.

Wednesdays 9am - 12pm. Level of commitment is based on building a strong team. Minimum one week per calendar month.

A friendly and approachable personality, reliable.
The candidate will require a DBS check and some basic level safeguarding training. (both of which are provided)

A great way to meet new families from the local community.
Hospitality Team Lead
-
To gather and lead a team of volunteers who will cater for different church events.

As needed across the calendar year by prior arrangement.

A friendly and approachable personality, reliable.

Premises Team
-
Be part of a team/working party who can be called upon for occasional one-off projects (probably via WhatsApp) across St Giles’ and The Dell Centre and St George’s Christian Centre. Tasks may include garden maintenance, decorating, general repairs etc.

As required by arrangement with Simon, our facilities manager.

A keen interest in premises maintenance. Some background in any relevant trade would be a bonus.

Working as part of a dedicated team. There will be opportunity for fellowship and plenty of tea or coffee and biscuits. Occasional team socials.
Health & Safety Support
-
To volunteer as and when required at a suitable time by prior arrangement to assist with regular safety checks across St Giles’ and The Dell Centre and St George’s Christian Centre. Also support required with Risk Assessments for regular and ad hoc events.

St George’s Café Team
-
We have a wide selection of roles available! From taking orders, making coffees, teas and serving food, working the till or the dishwasher.

We are looking for volunteers who would be happy to work from 9am to 12pm or from 12pm to 3pm, at least once per week.
-
Basic level health & hygiene training will be given where necessary. It is important to have great people skills and be willing to engage in conversation with our customers when the opportunity arises. This is a busy role and is therefore quite physical, so a good level of fitness is required.

You will join a really friendly team. The café is a busy community hub, where no two days the same, and this is an excellent opportunity to engage with the local community. It is a fantastic first step for someone who may be looking for work experience or a career in catering and hospitality.
Little Kids Play Set Up
-
To put up tables and chairs for our toddler group and set up the toys ahead of our regular toddler and Baby group each Wednesday at St George’s Church.

Ideally every Wednesday, 8.30-9.30am. If we build a team then less frequently on a rota basis.

No special qualifications necessary. Just a desire to help and a reasonable level of fitness as some heavy lifting involved and quite physical work.

Becoming part of a well-established, skilled and friendly team providing a key service to a vital community outreach ministry.
Driver
-
To go and pick up a person from their home in Ashtead, for Sunday Church or church related group at an allocated time, and then to return them home.
-
once a week/month or as an when needed by prior arrangement.

A friendly and approachable personality, reliable.
Own car with current clean driver’s license.

Providing a vital community link to someone in need.

Serving as part of a small team with the sole purpose of decorating the large Christmas tree in the foyer of St George’s Church.

Afternoon/early evening slot for a few hours – Annually! By prior arrangement.

The tree is large so consider level of fitness/mobility in terms of climbing step ladders and lifting.
-
Spreading festive joy! And unlimited tea, coffee and biscuits.
Festive Interior Decor Team - St George’s
Foodbank Transport Manager
-
Delivery of Foodbank donations from St George’s Church to Epsom & Ewell Foodbank.
-
Once a week at a time which the foodbank is accepting donations and which works for you. (less, if we can secure a small team to work on a rota basis)
-
Own car. reasonable fitness level due to the requirement for lifting and carrying bags of donated groceries.
-
A vital support to those in need at what is proving to be a vey difficult time, financially for so many.

To join a friendly team across multiple church services and events operating our projection software, Pro Presenter, from the media desk. Serving at least one service per calendar month (+Special events by prior arrangement)

As part of a rota you would be required to commit to at least one Sunday morning (9am - 12pm) or Sunday Evening (4.30-7.30pm) each month (may be fewer depending on numbers) at your preferred church or across St Giles' and St George's where required. In addition there will be the opportunity to bring your skills to other special services across both churches by prior arrangement.

Full training will be given on Pro-Presenter - the software solution we currently use across our services. This is an excellent opportunity for any young person completing a Duke of Edinburgh Award, or someone who may be interested in experiencing first hand industry level skills if you are interested in a film or television production career or hobby. An equally exciting opportunity for anyone with an interest or some experience in this industry sector.

A/V Operator
Baptism Prep Assistant

Assisting the leader with pre-arranged Baptism preparation sessions - as required. e.g. with setting out chairs and resources, turning lights off/on for videos; taking the register and welcoming attendees and offering teas/coffees to participants and team.

This is currently once a month on the first Monday from 7.45-9.15pm, but may be less depending on the number of volunteers (i.e. rota basis).

Reliable, welcoming and friendly.

Tea and coffee. Accompanying people in their faith journey.
Little Kids - Baby Room

Come and chat with some parents and their under one babies as they step into a new phase of life, in our weekly baby group at St George’s Church.

Wednesdays 9am - 12pm. Level of commitment on a weekly basis is dependent of us building a team to serve on rota basis.

Prayer/Intercessions Lead

To lead the congregation in praying for the wider world, community and church. Will vary according to the service (re-style)

Remembrance Sunday Stewards
-
Remembrance Sunday Specific -Setting up of Gazebo to protect musical instruments from the elements at the Ashtead War Memorial.
Jet wash the War Memorial and tidy up the area ahead of our annual service.
To redirect traffic from road closure points, on the morning of the service.

in the hours prior to and during our annual Remembrance Sunday service at the War Memorial in Ashtead.

Good general fitness due to level of physical work required.

Working as part of a dedicated team. There will be opportunity for fellowship.
Parish Property Steward
-
Each church property in the parish has a dedicated steward.
To be first point of contact (not on-call 24hr!) for any maintenance issues / problems arising
to carry out an annual inspection with a view to identify and forward plan improvements
the property stewards together form the Fabric’ committee, who meet 6 times per year.

Variable and by agreement

Each steward joins the Fabric Committee, meeting 6 times a year.
Sound Desk Operator

To join a friendly team across multiple church services and events operating sound equipment. Ensuring all sound equipment is on and functioning ahead of an event or service. Overseeing appropriate storage of all sound equipment to enable ease of location for multiple users.

As part of a rota you would be required to commit to at least one Sunday morning (9am - 12pm) or Sunday Evening (4.30-7.30pm) each month (may be fewer depending on numbers) at your preferred church or across St Giles' and St George's where required. In addition there will be the opportunity to bring your skills to other special services across both churches by prior arrangement.

A good ear for music/audio quality. A knowledge of sound equipment is an advantage but full training will be given. This is an excellent opportunity for any young person completing a Duke of Edinburgh Award, or someone who may be interested in experiencing first hand industry level skills if you are interested in a sound production career or hobby.
