Caring for Our Emotional Health — and One Another
“Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
On 24 February, many organisations will mark Emotional Health Day, created by the Centre for Emotional Health to encourage people to pause and reflect on their emotional wellbeing. It’s a reminder that emotional health is not a luxury or an optional extra — it is part of how God has created us, and it affects how we relate to Him, to ourselves and to one another.
Why Emotional Health Matters
Life brings seasons of joy, but also seasons of pressure, uncertainty and sorrow. Good emotional health doesn’t mean feeling happy all the time; it means having the resilience, support and inner resources to navigate whatever comes our way. When we tend to our emotional wellbeing, we are better able to love, serve and flourish in the ways God intends.
Scripture recognises the emotional life of God’s people with striking honesty. The Psalms alone give voice to joy, fear, anger, hope, despair, gratitude and longing. We are not asked to hide these feelings — we are invited to bring them before God.
“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)
These verses remind us that emotional health is both personal and communal. God cares for our inner life, and He calls us to care for one another’s.
Small Steps That Make a Difference
Emotional Health Day encourages simple, practical steps — the kind that gently strengthen us over time:
Making space for rest and reflection
Talking openly with someone we trust
Noticing when we feel overwhelmed and seeking support early
Practising gratitude and prayer
Staying connected with others, especially when life feels heavy
These are not grand gestures, but they are deeply biblical rhythms of life.
We Are Here for You
As a church family, we want to be a place where emotional wellbeing is taken seriously and where no one has to struggle alone. If you are finding life difficult, or if you simply need someone to talk to, please know that our pastoral team is available. Whether you prefer a quiet conversation, prayer support or help connecting with additional resources, we are here to walk alongside you. You can find the contact details for the Pastoral Care team HERE.
Sometimes the most courageous step is simply to say, “I could use a bit of support.” Emotional Health Day is a timely reminder that asking for help is not a sign of weakness — it is an act of wisdom and faith.
A Community That Helps One Another Thrive
Let’s use this day as an invitation to care for our own emotional health and to look out for those around us. A kind word, a listening ear or a simple check‑in can make a profound difference. Together, we can be a community where people feel seen, supported and strengthened in God’s love.
