Let’s Swap Together for Good

The Great Big Green Week, the UK’s largest celebration of action to tackle climate change, will take place this year from 7 to 15 June.

This year’s theme is ‘Let’s swap together for good,’ which encourages us all to unite in making swaps to lessen the impact of climate change, strengthen our communities, and build a future we can be proud to pass on to the next generation.

Millions of people across the UK will come together throughout next week and beyond to make small swaps, large swaps, and systemic changes, all of which contribute to improving our communities.

There are various swaps you can participate in, such as exchanging skills, stories, and ideas—from how to grow your own vegetables to repairing clothes and household items. You might also consider hosting a clothes swap in your local community. Perhaps there is an unloved paved area nearby that, with a little help from friends, can be transformed into a wildlife-rich sanctuary for nature. Additionally, since we need to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, consider coming together as a family to identify opportunities to switch to renewable energy.

There are many more ideas to explore, including how to lobby your local politician, available in the A-Z The Great Big Green Event Ideas brochure. You may also want to check out local events listed on the Great Big Green Week website and feel inspired to get involved with a community ‘swap’ event in the future to encourage change for good in your local area.
