Nativity Crib Festival – A Joyful First!
Our very first Parish Crib Festival was a resounding success!
Over four days, more than 1,400 visitors of all ages joined us—members of our congregation, the wider Ashtead community, and guests from further afield. St George’s was alive with energy as people wandered among the exhibits, shared conversations about the crib scenes, and enjoyed refreshments in the café.
The displays featured 42 table‑top cribs, alongside quilts, textiles, and a striking life‑size silhouette of the nativity scene, designed by Hilary Perona‑Wright and crafted by Richard Bowden.
Participants ranged from local schools and community groups to individuals and mission partners, many of whom were taking part in something like this for the first time. Their creativity shone through—designs brimmed with imagination, joy, and even a touch of humour.
Between the cribs, beautiful floral arrangements added to the festive atmosphere. Each was inspired by a Christmas carol and lovingly created by members of the church’s flower‑arranging teams.
Children were well catered for, with a craft table, story time, a stable scene complete with dressing‑up costumes, and a cheerful challenge to spot and count colourful knitted mice. Musical performances—including contributions from the Ashtead Community Choir and The Greville School’s Boys Choir—brought extra sparkle to the celebration.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone whose hard work, enthusiasm and creativity made this wonderful event possible.
