Mission Partner: Karen Border Ministries (KBM) Thailand

Five years after our last visit, before Covid hit, we finally made it out to visit Noh Bo Academy (NBA), part of the Karen Border Ministry (KBM) which Christ Church Bangkok administers. They are unfailingly grateful for Ashtead's support.

In spite of the lack of foreign volunteers due to pandemic restrictions and, although the staff had all changed except for the Principal and three other stalwarts, we found the place in good order. The campus was well cared for - flourishing crops of a variety of tropical fruits and green vegetables. Four pigs, and hens laying enough eggs to feed the school - the surplus being sold, were a welcome addition. Students were as outgoing as ever, willing to use any of the 4 languages they are taught. Staff were young, able, qualified and had an excellent rapport with the older ladies and students of all ages who were obviously responding and learning well.

The longstanding Principal has the gift of enabling others to develop their potential, encouraging them to flourish while they are at NBA. Many are gifted and have big varied personalities, feelings, ideas and ideals, as many youngsters have. They have hopes and aspirations for the future. There are always more students who want to go to the school than there are places. NBA has what so very many schools strive for – they are a family.

Animist, Buddhist, Christian and those of no faith are all accepted, welcomed and nurtured at the school. NBA stands as a Christian witness in the area, which is a huge responsibility. All parents and students know that Christian principles are upheld and there is regular Bible teaching. Some come to a living faith of their own which is always a great thrill.

The school may be small, approx 200 students, but the ripple effect of its witness to God is great. Never under-estimate what God can do with people who are willing to look to him for leadership. 2 Tim 2:13 says, if we are faithful God remains faithful. Please continue to pray. Gwynneth Cooper
