Draw Near to God: A Lent Invitation

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
— James 4:3

Lent invites us to pause, refocus and draw closer to God. It’s often described as a season of giving things up, echoing Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness. But the heart of Lent is not self‑denial for its own sake — it’s about gently clearing away the distractions that can pull us from God’s presence.

This pocket‑sized daily devotional booklet - Draw Near: Life-Giving Habits for Lent; compiled by the Church of England, invites you to develop a gentle ‘rhythm of life’: habits and patterns that help us grow as disciples of Christ, especially as we prepare to celebrate God’s saving love at Easter.

Each week, a different contributor reflects on a core aspect of Christian discipleshipWorship, Prayer, exploring Scripture, sharing Communion, Serving others, and Sharing the Good News. Alongside an introduction from Archbishops Sarah Mullally and Stephen Cottrell, the booklet offers daily Bible readings, images, short reflections, prayers and simple practices to help you draw near to God this Lent and beyond. You can download sample pages from the booklet HERE.

Booklets (£2.50 each) will be available from this Sunday at St Giles’ and St George’s Churches, and from St George’s reception (Monday–Friday, 9am–2pm). Payment can be made by a card donation at the PAYAZ machines at the internal doors to the church.

Reflections will also be available through the Everyday Faith App, with daily content for adults from Monday to Saturday throughout Lent.
