Caring for Creation: A New Year Invitation
The Church of England has made a bold and hopeful commitment: to reach Net Zero Carbon by 2030. This isn’t simply an environmental target — it’s part of our Christian calling to safeguard God’s creation and work for a fairer, more just world. Climate change already affects the poorest communities most severely, and the loss of biodiversity threatens the well-being of our single, shared planet. As a church, we are called to respond in faith, practice and mission.
Through its Environment Programme, the Church of England is helping churches and individuals reduce carbon emissions and care for the natural world. Each of us has a part to play. You can explore the wider programme HERE.
From 19–25 January, the Energy Saving Trust and Citizens Advice are marking Energy Savers Week, sharing simple, everyday habits that can help households save energy and money this winter. These small changes — from adjusting heating routines to reducing appliance use — can make a meaningful difference, especially when adopted across our community. You can view their detailed tips and watch videos created by ‘Energy Champions’, HERE.
As we begin a new year, this is a timely opportunity to reflect on how our daily choices can support both the planet and our own well-being. By taking small steps at home, we contribute to the Church’s wider Net Zero journey and live out our responsibility to care for creation.
