Mission Partner: Besom

We are one of 22 Besoms, spread from Dorset to North Yorkshire, which exist to connect those who can help and serve with those in need. In Ashtead, one of our main ministries is our furniture operation. Typically, we receive a referral from a social worker, housing officer or other support worker with an outline of the client’s needs. We then contact the client and talk through their needs. Sometimes we are asked to furnish an entire flat and sometimes just to help someone with a washing machine or cooker. We have helped 150 households so far this year. It is a blessing to be able reflect God’s love to those we visit and be able to listen to and pray with clients. It may amaze you to hear that 90% welcome our offer to pray a blessing on them and their home.

We can also organise gardening and decorating projects by connecting and facilitating church groups who have a desire to serve people in their community. There are always projects available.

We know that many of you know about Besom already because of your generosity in the way you support our work by donating household items, money, or your time. We feel honoured to be a part of the community in which we work and to be supported so wonderfully both practically and in prayer by the churches and individuals in the Ashtead, Leatherhead and Epsom area we cover. SGSG is a great supporter, so a massive thank you to you all.

Prayer is a key part of our ministry and we are constantly overwhelmed at the way God provides for our needs. We get a constant stream of requests for help but we usually have what we need to meet the needs; it is really faith building to experience it in action!

We are part of the Besom National Network which acts to support each local Besom and last November, we hosted the Network annual conference at the Dell Centre. Please join us in prayer as we pray for more Besoms to start across the country.

Last Christmas, church groups and individuals prepared an amazing 76 hampers which we distributed to clients. A thoughtfully prepared hamper really touches the hearts; many are overwhelmed that someone has taken the care to put something together just for them or their family. More information on the 2022 hampers will be coming out in the Autumn.
