Mothers' Union Celebrates 150 Years with Global Connections

This year marks a remarkable milestone for Mothers' Union as the organisation celebrates 150 years since its founding. Whilst Ashtead's branch continues to thrive through monthly meetings, fellowship and inspiring guest speakers, some members have also been privileged to take part in special anniversary events closer to home and across the world.

Meeting on the fourth Thursday of each month at St George's Church, the group enjoys coffee together before hearing from a wide range of speakers. Recent topics have included Ukraine, recycling, Canine Partners assistance dogs, and local community projects.

A particular highlight of this anniversary year was the opportunity for several members to join a worldwide gathering in Durban, South Africa. Bringing together representatives from across the global Mothers' Union family, the event celebrated a shared commitment to supporting families, strengthening communities and living out faith in practical ways. For those who attended, it was a powerful reminder that Ashtead's branch is part of a movement that reaches far beyond our local community.

Members also attended the national celebration service at St Paul's Cathedral, led by Mothers' Union Patron the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally, Archbishop of Canterbury.

Whether you're new to the area, looking to make friends, or interested in being part of a Christian organisation with both local and global impact, Mothers' Union offers a warm welcome. You don't have to be a mother to join. Why not come along to a meeting and discover more about this vibrant and supportive community for yourself?
