1. Worship

Icebreaker
Share about a time when you set off somewhere and things didn’t go to plan — maybe a journey, a project, or even a season of life. What did it teach you about trust?

Sung Worship Suggestions

  • Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer

  • Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)

  • Be Thou My Vision

Other Ways to Worship

  • Reflection & Silence: Picture yourself at a crossroads, with God asking you to ‘go.’
What might you need to leave behind to take that next step? Offer that in prayer.

2. Scripture

Read Together
Genesis 12:1–20

Recap
This week’s sermon explored Abram and Sarai’s journey — a call to go, to trust, and to discover that God’s promise holds even when faith falters.
Bishop Marianne Budde writes that when we respond to God’s call, “a part of us dies in the going, for we must relinquish a past version of ourselves to become the person waiting on the other side.”
Discipleship means saying yes to a God who still speaks, still calls us to go, and still blesses the world through those who trust Him enough to follow.

3. Discussion Questions

Going

  1. What do you notice about Abram’s response to God’s call in verses 1–4?

  2. Have you ever felt called to ‘go’ — to change, move, or trust God in something new?
What did it cost, and what did it grow in you?

  3. Marianne Budde says part of us “dies in the going.”
What might that mean for you in this season?

Fear & Control

  1. In Egypt, Abram acts out of fear rather than faith (vv.10–20).
What does this show us about the struggle to trust God when things feel out of control?

  2. Where are you tempted to take matters into your own hands rather than waiting on God?

The Mystery of God’s Power

  1. How does God’s promise to bless Abraham hold firm despite Abraham’s mistakes?

  2. What does this reveal about the nature of God’s faithfulness — to us, and through us?

  3. How might God’s blessing through us reach further than we can see or plan?

Trust and Obedience

  1. What might ‘going’ look like in your life right now — perhaps a new opportunity, a risk, or a change in attitude?

  2. How can we support one another as a community of people learning to trust God’s call — even when the ‘satnav’ of life seems to be leading down uncertain tracks?

4. Prayer

Pray Together

  • Give thanks for the ways God has been faithful in your journey so far.

  • Pray for courage to trust Him in whatever “next step” He’s asking of you.

  • Remember those who feel called into something new but are afraid or weary.
