1) What’s the biggest battle you’ve ever faced? What did you most need to know when you faced up to it?

2) Why did Joshua need the appearance of the Commander of the Army of the Lord? What were his key points?

3) How does Joshua respond to God’s revelation? How do you respond?

4) Why do we need to follow the Lord’s leading, in all matters of mission? What happens if we don’t? What happens if we do?

Read Matthew 28:16-20

5) What are the parallels in how the disciples were feeling and how Jesus speaks to them here?

6) What was more terrifying – the people of Israel’s calling, or the Great Commission for the us and the disciples? Why?

7) What are the nature of our God’s battles in our generation? What does compromise with the people around us look like for us? What does complete faith and obedience look like?

8) What have you made of the Pope’s interventions in the current Middle East crisis? What is a distinctively Christian view of warfare today?

9) What is the spiritual battle right now, for us as a church, do you think?

10) How does Alpha and other evangelistic initiatives fit in? What part could you or the group play in supporting this? Pray into these things.
