26/04 Growing in Christ: Look for Yourselves
Session 1: Look for Yourselves (Colossians 1:1–8)
A short introduction
We’re beginning a new series in Colossians, exploring what it means to grow as disciples of Jesus.
Paul begins not with instruction, but with attention, he notices what is already there.
Read: Colossians 1:1–8
Take a moment. Read it slowly.
What do you notice?
What stands out?
A word, phrase, or feeling, what catches your attention?
What is already present?
What does Paul see in this community?
Faith
Where do you see faith, in yourself or others?
Love
Who is your love reaching towards at the moment?
Who is it not?
Hope
What is shaping your hope right now?
Growth
Where do you see fruit or growth?
Where do you not?
Borrowed
Is there an area of your faith that feels borrowed, something you’ve inherited, repeated, or relied on from others, but not really made your own yet?
What might it look like to begin to own or explore that for yourself?
Next step
What is one small step you sense God inviting you into?
(Optional)
Prayer
Take a moment of quiet, perhaps encourage everyone to think about what going deeper in their discipleship might look like for them, deeper in Faith, Love and Hope. Then Invite people to bring to God any part of their faith that feels second-hand and ask him to grow something real and personal there.
