House Groups - A Mission Beyond Themselves

Recent world events such as the pandemic, have brought about an acute awareness of community with churches often at the heart. God himself is in a community of three – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – who exist in perfect unity. So, it’s not surprising that God created us to be in community with one another.

Whilst a Small Group is by no means a substitute for the community found in regular corporate worship, being part of a smaller group of Christians enables us to learn from each other and provides a safe space for us to ask questions and to go deeper.

In John 13:34-35 we are told to ‘Love one another. As I have loved you…By this everyone will know you are my disciples.’ The aim, as we grow together through teaching, fellowship, communion and prayer is that we will follow Jesus more closely and as a result become more like him.

In his Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) Jesus commands us to “Go and make disciples of all nations!”  Our mission as a church and as house groups is to respond to Jesus’ command.

In Ashtead Parish we want everyone to be involved and currently we have 35 thriving House Groups. Most groups meet once a week to have fellowship together, to worship, to study scripture, to care for one another, and to pray for each other and the wider world.  In our small groups we seek to become disciples of Jesus, to create community, to do evangelism and to encounter God.
