Service That Leaves a Lasting Smile
If you have visited St George’s Café, then you have not only enjoyed delicious food freshly prepared on the premises, but also impeccable service from one of our dedicated volunteer servers. Service with a smile that you are unlikely to forget in a hurry!
The Café is usually open Monday – Friday from 8.30am until 2.30pm, extending to 5pm each Tuesday when many customers enjoy a delicious afternoon tea from 2.30pm. It’s always busy with many regular customers from all walks of life, and a recent 5* review from Trip Adviser.
“It’s a fun way to serve the community!”
Volunteers turn their hands to any job which needs doing, taking on a wide variety of roles – from taking orders to making barista style coffees to serving food and washing the dishes. “It’s a fun way to serve the community!” says one volunteer. ‘”It’s therapeutic!” offers another. “Really good for your wellbeing.” “I have made really good friendships working here.” says another.
The café has had to temporarily close on Mondays.
Unfortunately, due to ill health there are fewer helping hands, and the café has had to temporarily close on Mondays.
If you are looking for an opportunity to engage with your local community, make a real difference in people’s lives and have availability between 8.30am and 2.30pm on Mondays – or indeed just a few hours any other day, then they would love to welcome you. It is also a fantastic first step for someone who may be looking for work experience or considering a career in catering and hospitality.
“No experience is necessary as a full induction will be given.”
“We need volunteers for the morning, over lunchtime and/or into the afternoon. No experience is necessary as a full induction will be given. We also provide level 2 online health & hygiene training where necessary.” says manager, Rosie Bennett, who jointly runs the Café alongside Dawn McInnes. “You will join a really friendly team.” adds Dawn “The café is a busy community hub, where no two days are the same. Great people skills and an ability to engage in conversation with our customers when the opportunity arises are key skills. It’s a busy role and is therefore quite physical, so a good level of fitness is also required.”
If you would be interested to find out more then pop into the café for a coffee/tea and speak to Rosie or Dawn or better still, send an email with availability and questions to Linda Scott, our Reception and Communities Engagement Manager linda.scott@ashteadparish.org. Linda will answer your questions and forward messages to Dawn and Rosie or invite you to join the team!
