He is not here for He has risen

“We are an Easter people and alleluia is our song” – words of St Augustine, many years ago. Times may have changed over the centuries, but it is still true – we are an Easter people! So, the challenge we face as Christians today is to ask, “What might this look like in today’s world?” We are about to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, the one who died for our sins and rose again. Death has been defeated; hope has been restored. But it is one thing to proclaim this wonderful news when we meet in worship Sunday by Sunday – and not so easy to live this out Monday to Saturday.

We have to pass through Good Friday, but the cross is not the end of the story, merely the beginning. The empty tomb means that our God can do far more than we could ever imagine (Ephesians 1.18-21). So, this Easter, whatever our circumstances, may we rejoice in knowing that God is to be trusted at all times. And may this belief not only be seen on a Sunday but be lived out in our lives Monday to Saturday.

Alleluia, Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia! Rev Malcolm Raby, Assistant Minister
