Lent

As we continue to grow as beloved followers of Jesus, I’d like to encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the season of Lent.

This 40-day period in the Christian calendar begins on Ash Wednesday (2 March) and concludes on Easter Sunday (17 April). It is 40 days long because this is the length of Jesus’ temptation in the desert.

Lent is a special period in our discipleship journey.  Christians are encouraged to devote time to reflect, pray and prepare our hearts for Easter.  Lent is not a biblical requirement but for centuries it has been observed as an intentional time to pause and focus on Christ and our relationship with Him, as we journey onwards in His love together.

We begin on 2 March at 8pm with a service of ashing and communion in St Giles’ Church. Christians mark their forehead with ash as a symbol of sorrow for our sin, as a sign of our identity in Christ and a desire to journey through Lent with Jesus. (See Job 42 for an example of ash used as a symbol of repentance).

As a church, we invite you to share in the journey and in the gatherings and services we are offering.

In His love,  Richard
