A Place For Everyone at The Table

This September, I’m delighted to be launching something new at St Giles’ Church: The Table — an intergenerational Holy Communion service beginning on Sunday 20 September, and continuing on the third Sunday of each month at 10.30am.

Many of you will already appreciate the special feel of our second Sundays, where we gather across congregations and generations, sharing a strong sense of family. The Table will build on that and take it a step further.

This will be a fully Eucharistic service in which children, young people and adults are not just present, but actively involved throughout — in prayer, worship, the Eucharistic prayer and sharing Communion together. It’s not about simplifying what we do, but about expressing the richness of our tradition in a way that engages all ages.

Each month will explore a different theme, making The Table an ideal service to invite families, friends and newcomers. I hope it will also create new opportunities to strengthen our connections with local schools, toddler groups and the wider community.

Esther Jones, our Director of Music, will be leading the musical life of the service, and I will be overseeing and shaping it. There is a real sense of anticipation about what this could become.

Please do pray for The Table — that it will be a place where people of every age can gather around Jesus, grow in faith together, and discover what it means to belong to God’s family.
