28/06 Faith in the Everyday
Faith in the Everyday:
Read: Luke 24:13–35
1. What stood out to you from the talk you heard or the Emmaus story?
2. The disciples did not recognise Jesus at first. Have there been times when you only realised later that God was at work in a situation?
3. Most of our lives are lived ‘between Sundays’. Where do you spend most of your time during the week, and what difference might it make to see those places as places where Jesus is present?
4. My sermon suggested that the Christian life is often less about bringing God somewhere and more about noticing where he already is. What do you think about that idea?
5. Where might God already be at work in your everyday life, inviting you to join in?
6. The disciples brought their disappointment, confusion and grief onto the Emmaus road. How does it encourage you to know that Jesus met them there rather than waiting for them to have everything sorted out?
7. Sometimes faithfulness looks active; sometimes it looks like waiting, trusting and allowing ourselves to be carried. Which of those feels closest to your experience at the moment?
8. Baptism reminds us that we belong to God before we do anything for God. How does remembering that we are loved because we belong to Christ, rather than because of what we achieve, challenge or encourage you?
Close by spending a few moments in silence. Invite each person to reflect on this question:
‘Where might Jesus already be present in my ordinary week, and what might it look like to respond to him there?’
Pray for one another.
