On Mission with Jesus: Martha & Mary

Print Friendly and PDF

Icebreaker:

Think about the last time you were so busy that you missed out on something important. Have you ever been so caught up in tasks that you forgot to enjoy the moment?

Worship:

Spend some time in worship, focusing on Jesus as our source of rest and peace. Thank Him for His invitation to sit at His feet and learn from Him.

Bible Study: Read Luke 10:38-42

1.           Why do you think Martha was so distracted with preparations? What do you think her motivations were?

2.           What does Mary’s choice to sit at Jesus’ feet tell us about her priorities? How does this challenge us today?

3.           Jesus tells Martha that Mary has chosen “what is better.” What does this tell us about the priorities of a disciple?

4.           Why do you think Jesus responds with ‘Martha, Martha…..’ What does this say about His response to her complaint?

5.           Discipleship has two parts—learning from Jesus and serving Him. How can we find the right balance between these?

6.           Do you find yourself more like Martha (busy, distracted, anxious) or Mary (focused, present, worshipful) in your spiritual life?

7.           What are the things in your life that tend to distract you from simply being with Jesus?

8.           How can we make space to sit at Jesus' feet in our daily lives?

Prayer:

Pray for one another, asking God to help you set aside distractions and focus on Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you ways to grow in both service and intimacy with Christ.
